A leading international law firm is seeking an experienced Conflicts Lawyer to create its London resource on conflict identification, analysis, and resolution. This role functions as a central point of contact for partner and attorney conflict inquiries and plays a critical part in safeguarding the firm’s compliance, risk management, and client intake processes. In this newly created role, you can carve your own path within a fantastic firm.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will act as the primary contact for partner conflict inquiries across the firm, liaising with partners and associates to confirm the status of existing and prospective matters and resolve conflict-related issues efficiently and accurately.
You will oversee and manage the firm’s conflicts research process, ensuring potential conflicts are promptly identified, escalated where appropriate, and resolved so that new matters and clients can proceed without delay.
Core duties include:
- Managing conflicts clearance for new clients and new matters across all practice groups
- Providing guidance and oversight on client intake, screening procedures, and conflict waiver processes
- Advising attorneys on conflicts rules and supporting compliance with firm policies in engagement letters and waiver documentation
- Supervising the development and maintenance of ethical screens and ensuring consistent application across matters
- Acting as a subject matter expert on conflicts rules across relevant jurisdictions, including New York and other regions where the firm operates
- Reviewing matters for potential illegality, unethical conduct, or other risk indicators, and escalating issues as necessary
- Supporting continuous improvement of conflicts policies, procedures, and communication across the firm
- Providing day-to-day guidance to attorneys, analysts, and administrative personnel on conflicts processes and regulatory requirements
- Analyzing corporate structures and relationships to assess potential conflicts in complex transactions, restructurings, bankruptcies, and litigation matters
To be considered for this role, you will need a minimum of 5+ years of legal experience in a law firm or in-house legal environment and have a strong understanding of large firm practice areas. You will also need strong independent judgement, outstanding communication skills and the ability to prioritise work in a fast-paced environment. Experience is using specialised conflicts-checking systems is highly advantageous.
This is a high-responsibility role requiring a balance of technical legal expertise, operational precision, and strong interpersonal judgment. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining the integrity of the firm’s client intake and conflicts framework. The role offers a market leading salary and benefits package.
