City-quality private client work, based in the heart of the Cotswolds
Our client is a highly regarded international law firm seeking to recruit for their well-established UK Private Client team in Cheltenham.
This is a genuinely exciting opportunity to combine City-calibre domestic private client work with life in one of the South West’s most desirable locations.
The role
You will work with a number of different partners within the firm’s UK Private Client group, developing broad experience while building more specialised expertise in the type of work the team’s core client base requires. The team is widely recognised for its excellence in this space and works hard to build genuine, lasting relationships with clients, delivering a premium, personal service rather than a transactional one.
You can expect to be involved in:
- Advising a range of HNW/UHNW UK clients on succession and tax planning, often for complex, high-value estates
- Drafting more complex documents with minimal supervision, using appropriate precedents
- Managing a substantial and varied caseload efficiently and cost-effectively
- Delegating, co-ordinating and supervising the work of more junior team members where appropriate
- Taking part in client marketing activity, including seminars, presentations and pitches
- Identifying and following through on client opportunities
- Contributing to the team’s wider knowledge and know-how initiatives
About you
We’re looking for a commercially minded private client lawyer who is ready to take real ownership of a broad and interesting caseload. You will likely have:
- 5+ years PQE
- Strong knowledge of the law and practice relating to the administration of estates
- A thorough understanding of inheritance tax and trusts
- Experience of dealing with HNW/UHNW clients
- Experience in a similar role, or you’re looking to step up into a more senior one
- A STEP qualification would be an advantage, though it isn’t essential
- Excellent team-working skills, with the ability to collaborate across levels and mentor more junior colleagues
- Good judgement and a strong commercial understanding of clients’ individual needs
- A hands-on approach to running a significant number of files and matters simultaneously
- Confident, clear communication, written and verbal, with a diverse range of clients
- Organisation, resilience, and the authority to tackle difficult issues as they arise
- A flexible, “go the extra mile” attitude
What’s on offer
- City-quality private client work without the City, based in a beautiful, well-connected Cotswolds location
- A close-knit, collegiate team culture within a firm of genuine scale and international reach
- Exposure to complex, high-value succession and tax planning work for an impressive client base
- Real opportunity to build your own client relationships and profile within the team
- Competitive salary and benefits package, reflective of experience and market position
- Clear and genuine opportunities for career progression
